Open to European and African DIY artists performing as solo or duo, the Show-me competition selected 12 artists in the spring of 2018 thanks to a jury of influential programmers from a variety of festivals and venues: The Great Escape, Cambridge Folk Festival, Cully Jazz Festival, Rocher de Palmer, Visa for Music, Summer Music, Focus Wales, Les Suds in Arles, Clandestino Festival,Jazz in Ouaga, Sauti za Busara, Roskilde Festival.
The 12 selected artists are:
Ariel Ariel (F) Poetry/pop with Caribbean roots.
Eliasse (F/Comores) A blues singer/guitarist with rhythms of the Indian ocean
Les sœurs Hié (F/Burkina Faso) Two sisters reviving the percussion & balafons of their country of origin.
Sanne Huijbreets (NL), Dutch solo singer, vibraphonist and electronic musician
Kawrites (F) A female electronic duo combining synthesizers, sampling, drumpad and violin
Marey (CH) Songwriting duo in an original cello and voice format (working in several languages).
Marzella (CH) Folk/rock singing duo from French-speaking Switzerland.
Meduoteran (CH/Turquie/Serbie) Baglama & accordion duo mixing authenticity and innovation.
Swims (CH) The electro project of Geneva jazz drummer, Arthur Hnatek
Robin Thirdfloor (South Africa) Alternative rapper of the Durban scene
Amy Yerewolo (Mali) West African female rap duo with Charlotte N’Diya on turntables.
David Zincke (GB) Purist blues fan revisits the tradition of the rural blues pioneers.
